KCA University hosted the inaugural ICPAK Fellows Breakfast, a landmark event that brought together the University Council, Management Board, key stakeholders and distinguished members of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK). This gathering celebrated the exemplary contributions of ICPAK Fellows, whose dedication continues to shape the accountancy profession in Kenya, while reinforcing the connection between KCA University and its founding members.
The breakfast provided an opportunity for ICPAK Fellows to reconnect and revisit the founding story of KCA University, established as the Kenya College of Accountancy in 1989. During the 1980s, Kenya was projected to need 4500 qualified accountants in 10 years, yet it could only qualify 20 accountants per year. The ICPAK Council resolved to establish the Kenya College of Accountancy to ensure quality training of accountants in Kenya and to address the growing shortage. From its humble beginnings with just 70 students, KCA University has transformed into a premier business and technology institution, boasting a vibrant community of over 28,000 students.
DVC Research, Innovation, and Outreach, Prof. Vincent Onywera, on behalf of the VC & CEO, Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki, emphasized the event’s significance in nurturing the university’s foundational ties and ensuring stakeholder engagement in transforming KCA University into a referral university of choice. Prof. Damiana Kieti Manono, DVC Finance, Planning, and Development, highlighted the university’s remarkable progress, including its ambitious infrastructural expansion. The first phase, featuring a state-of-the-art multi-level educational complex, marks a significant milestone in enhancing the university’s capacity to deliver world-class education.
ICPAK Council Chairperson, CPA Prof. Elizabeth Kalunda, reaffirmed the council’s pivotal role in supporting KCA University’s mission. She emphasized ICPAK Fellows’ contributions to curriculum relevance, innovation, professional mentorship, ethical leadership, and resource mobilization. These efforts ensure that KCA University remains at the forefront of producing highly skilled, moral, and forward-thinking professionals in accounting and beyond.
The ICPAK Fellows Breakfast was more than a celebration of past achievements; it was a call to action for continued collaboration. The event underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement in driving KCA University’s mission to become a referral university of choice.
