
KCA University’s leadership converged at Lerruat Log Resort in Kajiado from 22–24 September 2025 for a joint retreat bringing together the Board of Trustees, the University Chancellor, the University Council, and the KCA Foundation Board under the theme “Enhancing Synergy in Governance and Strategic Oversight.”
The retreat served as a platform for strategic deliberations on the future of the university, with participants engaging in dialogue on governance, sustainability, resource mobilization, institutional branding and the evolving role of higher education in society. It was a moment of alignment, reinforcing the importance of working cohesively to drive KCA University’s long-term mission.
Keynote speaker Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha, Chairman of the University of Nairobi Council, emphasized the centrality of strong governance structures in his address on “Strengthening University Governance for Sustainable Excellence in a Competitive Higher Education Landscape.”He emphasized that effective governance is not just about oversight, but about enabling universities to remain resilient, relevant, and impactful in society.
Another critical voice was Dr. Tonny K. Omwansa, CEO of the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), who shared his insights on “The Future of Higher Education: Challenges & Opportunities.” He noted: “The universities that will thrive are those that embrace innovation, adapt to emerging realities, and prepare learners not just for today, but for the future world of work.” His remarks highlighted the need for agility and innovation in shaping graduates who are ready for the future.
Reflecting on the retreat, Vice Chancellor & CEO, Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki, captured the spirit of the gathering, remarking: “When leadership converges with a shared vision, we create the conditions for sustainable excellence, not just for KCA University, but for the society we serve.” His words pointed to the importance of synergy at the leadership level in driving the university’s future.
The retreat concluded with a unified commitment to strengthen governance, reinforce financial sustainability, and sharpen KCA University’s strategic direction in the competitive higher education landscape. The way forward will focus on enhancing collaboration across all leadership organs, investing in innovation and building a distinctive institutional brand that reflects the university’s values and aspirations.
