Course Overview

The curriculum will bridge the gap created by the scarcity of highly trained manpower in the Performing Arts and Film Industry. The curriculum will also increase access to Higher Education in the country and professionalism in the industry. The graduands should be able to offer high-quality, integrated and market-driven skills, research and extension services. They should also be capable of enhancing the learning and development of budding artists, the quality of performances for stage, on television and film, thus social and economic development of the creative industry. The graduands will create opportunities, take on appropriate professional positions in the performing arts and film industry upon graduation, for development to enhance individual well-being and growth in the creative industry.

  • Film Technical Elements (Camera Techniques,Sound, Lighting, Cinematography)
  • Post Production (Editing, Graphic Design, Colour grading.)
  • Producing (Production Management, Executive Producing, Project Management, Marketing and Distribution)
Who Can Join

Students who have just completed their form 4 or grade 12 exams. Persons with experience in the film or performing arts. Proof of experience in the creative industry in any of the specialization areas. Those who want to increase their knowledge in film and performing arts.

Entry Qualifications

Candidates shall only be admitted to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Film Technology and Performing Arts if they have satisfied the minimum entry requirements of the university as specified below:

  • KCSE with minimum pass of C Plus (C+), or
  • KACE with at least 2 Principal Passes and 1 Subsidiary or KACE with at least 1 Principal and 2 Subsidiary Passes or their equivalent
  • Diploma in Film Studies/Theatre, Journalism /Mass Communication or any other related course from a recognized university
  • Duration & Structure of The Programme
    The duration of the programme is 9 semesters. This can be 4years for the government Sponsored Students doing semesters. Or 3 years for the Self Sponsored Students doing trimesters.
    Mode of Delivery of The Programme/Course
    This is a fulltime programme. The Course is highly practical thus demands for physical attendance classes. Some of the units are however blended with both physical and virtual modes.
