From the price of fuel to the cost of a family’s weekly shopping, conflicts in distant parts of the world are being felt in Kenyan homes. That was the focus of a session chaired by KCA University Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki at the 2nd KASNEB International Conference for Professionals, held on 27 October 2026 at The Edge Convention Centre in South C, Nairobi. The conference brought together delegates from across the professions, alongside representatives of the State Departments for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
KASNEB invited Prof. Wakindiki to lead the discussion on “Geopolitical Conflicts Driving High Cost of Living: Navigating Crisis the Professional Way.” Opening the session, Prof. Wakindiki explained how disruption to global shipping, rising fuel import costs and a weaker shilling travel quickly to ordinary households, raising the cost of food, transport and school fees.
He argued that professionals sit at the centre of the response, saying “Every price passes through a budget, a contract or a procurement decision that one of us signs off.” He urged accountants, procurement officers and other professionals to plan for shocks, to act with integrity when pressure to cut corners is highest, and to share their expertise with policymakers.
Prof. Wakindiki also shared how KCA University is managing rising costs: negotiating contracts competitively, using fixed-price agreements, generating solar power, and expanding scholarships and work-study opportunities so that students can continue their studies.
