Profile

Paul Abuonji is currently the Head of ICT at KCA University where he is tasked with the responsibility of spearheading a deliberately conceived, carefully monitored digital transformation agenda aimed at improving service delivery, cost-cutting, and reengineering the University’s business processes to meet the current fast-paced industry and clients demands without jeopardizing the security of systems and data.

Previously I was the Associate Director of ICT and Lecturer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. I hold a PhD in Information Technology Security and Audit form JOOUST; a Master of Science in Information Technology Security and Audit from JOOUST, a Master of Business Administration- specializing in Strategic Management, from Maseno University, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. I was also the Head of ICT Security, where I designed, implemented, monitored and audited the ICT security systems of the university. Besides, I was the Lead Champion for ISO 27001:2013- ISMS certification standard in the University and the Project Manager for the implementation a fully integrated, web-based ERP system at the University.

Prior to my appointment and JOOUST, I was a Lecturer at the Great Lakes University of Kisumu where I was also the Head of the Department of Information Technology and ICT Manager. I successfully developed teaching curricula for BSc. Information Technology, Diploma in Information Technology and Certificate in Information Technology and effectively established the department of IT in Great Lakes University which I headed for about four years before resigning to take up a job at JOOUST.

Latest Achievement in Technology: Developed and implemented a novel ICT security model called “Stratified Cyber Security Vigilance (SCSV) Model”, effectively tested it and successfully implemented it to secure the University’s ICT infrastructure.

Research Grants

  • In August 2020 together with two (2) others, jointly brought to the University a Grant of 70 high-end Dell servers, one T1600 juniper router and other networking equipment worth over Ksh. 50 million.
  • In January 2021 together with three (3) others, we won a research grant from Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) for Early Career Researcher (ECR) training.
  • In January 2021, I was part of a team that successfully bided for an Institutional Development grant from VLIR-OUS Belgium worth over Ksh. 600 million.
