KCA University Faculty Awarded Prestigious Fulbright Visiting Scholar Research Grant

KCA University scholar, Prof. Simon Ngigi, has been selected by the prestigious J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Research Grant. This recognition underscores KCA University’s commitment to fostering research excellence and positions the institution as a leader in the global higher education sector.

Prof. Ngigi, an Associate Professor in Educational Research and Evaluation and Director of the Centre for Teaching & Learning Excellence, will spend eight months at Northern Arizona University as a Research Scholar, where he will conduct groundbreaking comparative research on Student Participation in University Governance and National Political Discourse: A Comparative Analysis Between Kenya and the U.S.

The Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program is one of the world’s most prestigious and competitive international educational exchange programs. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the program has been fostering mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries since 1946. Selection for a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award is extraordinarily competitive, typically requiring candidates to demonstrate:

  • Excellence in their academic discipline and research achievements.
  • Strong potential to contribute to knowledge creation and international understanding.
  • Leadership qualities and commitment to advancing their field.
  • Ability to serve as cultural ambassadors for their home country.

Prof. Ngigi’s selection demonstrates that KCA University is home to faculty of international standing, whose work is recognized and valued by the global academic community. His selection is a tremendous honor that reflects not only his exceptional academic credentials and research excellence but also the caliber of scholarship that KCA University cultivates.

Why Understanding Student Governance Matters

Prof. Ngigi’s comparative research project addresses a critical gap in higher education scholarship, how students participate in university governance structures and contribute to national political discourse across different cultural and institutional contexts. Upon his return from Northern Arizona University, Prof. Ngigi is expected to share his research findings through scholarly publications, institutional seminars, and collaborative engagements aimed at strengthening student governance systems and enhancing participatory university cultures.
KCA University celebrates this milestone and looks forward to welcoming him back with enriched insights that will contribute meaningfully to academic excellence, institutional transformation, and civic education.
