PROFESSOR

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to building a strong academic culture of excellence, integrity, and innovation.
  • Teach and facilitate learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other learning situations as assigned by the COD from time to time.
  • Participate in the development, planning and implementation of high-quality curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
  • Attract research funding through grants and collaborations, lead research teams, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge. Supervise Postgraduate students as assigned by the Chair of the Department (COD).
  • Participate in program reviews, audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide leadership within the department by mentoring junior faculty, guiding early-career researchers, and supporting staff development.
  • Serve on university committees, boards, and the senate and contribute to policy formulation and decision-making.
  • Participate in developing, administering, and marking exams, assignments, and continuous assessment tests.
  • Assist in developing learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
  • Provide advice, guidance and feedback to students to support their academic progress and refer them to support services as appropriate.
  • Maintain proper records of ‘students’ examinations, assignments, and continuous assessment tests and ensure they are keyed to the examination records management system on time.
  • Foster partnerships, consultancy, and outreach initiatives that enhance the University’s visibility and impact.
  • Undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff development and training activities to update and enhance skills.

Academic/professional requirements and experience for promotion/appointment

  • An earned PhD or equivalent earned doctoral degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognised university;
  • At least three (3) years of continuous teaching experience at the University as an Associate Professor;
  • A minimum of six (6) publications in reputable refereed journals or its equivalent since promotion or appointment to the position of Associate Professor;
  • Supervised a minimum of three (3) master’s and two (2) PhD students to completion since last appointment or promotion to Associate Professor;
  • Attracted research or development funds as at minimum as a Co-PI in at least two projects since last promotion or appointment as an Associate Professor;
  • Registered and a member in good standing with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  • Demonstrated evidence of service to the University and community;
  • Contributed both nationally and internationally through scholarly meetings, conferences, research seminars, and advisory boards.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

  • Registered and a member in good standing with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
  • Demonstrated evidence of service to the University and community;

SENIOR LECTURER

  • Attracted research or development funds as a researcher in at least one project since the last promotion or appointment as a Lecturer/ Research Fellow;
  • Demonstrated evidence of service to the University and community.

LECTURER
