KCA University has taken a significant step towards joining the East African Community (EAC) Scholarship Programme following a verification visit by the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA).
The visit forms part of the due diligence process for institutions shortlisted to host beneficiaries under Phase II of the EAC Scholarship Programme. KCA University successfully applied to offer the Master of Science in Data Science and Master of Science in Development Finance programmes under the regional initiative, which seeks to strengthen postgraduate education, research, and academic collaboration across East Africa.
During the visit, the IUCEA delegation engaged with University leadership, faculty members, and programme coordinators to assess the institution’s readiness and capacity to deliver high-quality postgraduate training to scholarship beneficiaries from across the region. The exercise included a comprehensive review of academic and administrative systems, discussions on programme delivery and student support services, and inspections of facilities that support teaching, learning, research, innovation, and postgraduate education.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Isaiah I.C. Wakindiki, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Outreach, Prof. Vincent Onywera, reaffirmed KCA University’s commitment to academic excellence and regional collaboration.

“KCA University is honoured to have been shortlisted for this important initiative. Our commitment is to provide a world-class learning environment supported by quality academic programmes, robust research and innovation ecosystems, and strong student support services. We believe that higher education plays a critical role in advancing regional integration and sustainable development, and we look forward to contributing to the success of the EAC Scholarship Programme,” said Prof. Onywera.
The verification exercise also provided an opportunity for the University to showcase its modern teaching and learning facilities, innovation hub, research infrastructure, digital resources, and student support systems designed to enhance the postgraduate learning experience.
The EAC Scholarship Programme, coordinated by IUCEA with support from the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW Development Bank, aims to strengthen regional integration through postgraduate education, research collaboration, and student mobility across the East African Community.
The visit marks an important milestone in KCA University’s internationalisation agenda and reflects the University’s growing reputation as a regional hub for postgraduate education, research, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
If selected to participate in the programme, KCA University will join a network of institutions across East Africa dedicated to developing highly skilled professionals equipped to address regional and global development challenges.
